Tick's Poem
For my grandfather, E.T. “Tick” Bitting. What we inherit without choosing it — and how we come to understand it. A grandfather's box becomes a mirror, and we ask what we're ready to return to the water.
Ancestral healing as a bridge between the individual and the collective — through music, movement, and reflection. Each journey is trauma-informed, held gently, and carried by one of the songs.
RUAH is the Hebrew word for spirit, breath, wind — the breath that carries us through the whole journey, and through life.
RUAH is the unification of the individual and the collective. With ancestral support, the collective doesn't overwhelm us — and the individual doesn't isolate us. We always return to the self; the bridge is what keeps us whole instead of divided.
It is a specific witnessing process I designed — using the arts and generative storytelling to witness particular human, collective, and ancestral topics together, in a group, whether virtual or in person.
Each session is a guided journey inspired by Theory U — my own interpretation and understanding of Otto Scharmer's brilliant process for sensing and learning from the deepest source within us. We descend by opening the mind, then the heart, then the will; we rest at the still point; then we rise, carrying what wants to come. A song holds the descent and the return.
Every journey is built so that depth never costs safety.
We touch, we don't open the whole story. You can pass at any moment, step away, and be witnessed without being fixed.
Individual repair and collective repair meet. We welcome the ancestors of life, love, and well-being to hold the field with us.
Each journey uses one original song as its spine — played slowly, verse by verse, so it can be digested rather than washed over.
Each is a standalone session built around a single original song and a single thread of healing — witnessed through the arts and generative storytelling, in a group, virtual or in person. Topics in brief; the full journey unfolds in the room.
No experience necessary — and no personal connection to the topic required. Each session stands on its own, so you can start with any one that calls to you (yes, even Three and Four). Follow your heart, bring an open curiosity, and let the healing be deeply fun.
Session One open — Aug 18 or Aug 22 · $50 ($25 fairer pricing for Latin America, Asia & Africa)

A wooden box carried across an ocean — both sides of the war, both sides of the wound. We open what was locked away, witness the silence we all carry, and release what was held, spreading a little healing everywhere.
Democracy as an unfolding process — the founding promise of “all men created equal,” and the gated door that kept the vote from so many. We trace who was let in and who was left out, and ask what a house must become to hold everyone.
Democracy still unfolding — suffrage, Selma, the Voting Rights Act, and the work that remains. We honor how far the promise has come and how it keeps growing, widening the circle of who belongs.
